How to Convert a Document to PDF

Export a document to PDF and check layout, searchable text, links and privacy before sharing it.

Export from the original document

Open the source in its editing application and choose Export as PDF or Save as PDF. A dedicated export usually offers more control over links, bookmarks and accessibility than a generic print-to-PDF workflow. This page does not upload files.

Check the layout before sharing

Inspect page breaks, margins, tables and fonts. Try selecting and copying text to ensure it is actual text rather than an image. Check links and page numbers on both a large screen and a narrow display.

Handle scanned pages separately

A scanned PDF may need optical character recognition before text can be searched or selected. OCR can misread numbers, mathematical signs and names. Compare important text with the original image rather than assuming recognition is exact.

Protect sensitive information

Remove unnecessary metadata and verify that redactions permanently remove the underlying content. A black rectangle placed over text is not reliable redaction. Keep a source copy so that future corrections do not require editing the exported PDF.

Sources and reference scope

References support the identified formula, unit or jurisdiction. They do not imply endorsement of this site. Check the original document for current conditions and exceptions.
